From my childhood memories, there was a gueisha frame that was my mom’s and I used to love it. I remember the gueisha’s ornamental vest, the red and blue colors and the black frame around the art. I believe it was my first contact with Japanese culture (or at least it was the most impactfull one for me).

Thing is, I haven’t seen this frame for the past +17 years and I wanted to make my own version of it (as I remembered) to give to my mother as a birthday gift on September 2020.

After I finished the illustration, I discovered that my mom gave the frame to someone else long time ago and I thought I’d never see how close I got from the original one.

Turned out that half a year later, I found a ~17 years old photo showing our Christmas tree aaand guess what was behind it! Not Santa XD but the gueisha frame!! Well, not exactly a gueisha, because it’s more likely to be an emperor after all. HA. Didn’t notice the mustache, younger me.
