Once Upon A Time in 1999 - Room Designs I

Finally posting some exciting, fun and challenging room designs that I’ve been working on for the past months/year with The Big Kids’ Clubhouse! Initially, these rooms were only meant to serve as references (concepts), but now they’ll be part of the actual gameplay and I’m so hyped! The whole experience of working with Ryder (the creative director) has been a real joy, as they’re such a sweet and creatively passionate human.

First things first, this building is a house set in the 80’s/90’s. I’ve done the exterior concept design first (which I’ll post soon) and while I was studying its exterior shapes, I was already thinking about the interior layout. So after that, it was time to put my architect hat on  thank you, bachelor in architecture, you’ll be put to good use nowand start designing the rooms.

This house is supposed to accommodate a lot of kids from all ages, so it was a real pleasure to add little spots and trinkets for them (beware of the cursed stuff, though). Anyhow, the living room was the first one to be born and of course I had to complicate my life by making a tunnel under the stairs.

In any case, the research phase was specially fun and nostalgic, two things this game will be full of. There’s something really appealing about 80’s/90’s interior design that calms me and brings back memories of a time when everything was slower and lighter. I wish we could bring more of that lifestyle back nowadays.

Then, passing through the living room’s beads curtain, we enter the kitchen. The function must serve as much as the aesthetics here, so the layout gave me a bit of a headache (the lady of the house deserves a nice and cozy room to cook delicious meals and give some kids a lecture every now and then).

Aaand finally, going out through one of the kitchen’s door there’s an intriguing spot: a Wild Animal Clinic! in the garage!

This one was specially fun to brain-storm and problem-solve as the questions of “How is she going to hold a bleeding and screeching bobcat while reaching for the needle?” or “What if she has to give the otter a shower? A removable faucet could be useful…”  would come out… That sort of a thing.

More rooms to come soon !

Thank you for watching
