Salty Waters
Aaand here we go to the last illustration of the environment concept series (at least for now).
This one was a bit more “figuring out as I go” and it turns out that I forgot how much I enjoy this loose type of process…. Sometimes when I’m too uptight with an idea from the beginning, it only brings me frustration in the end. Gotta remember to let go of ideas when they don’t work, so new ones can come.
For example, during the sketching/thumbnailing process I was trying to put the fence higher and “frame” Akane. Maybe even make a Tori gate (I know, again. I just love them, tsk-tsk). However, it turned out too distracting and heavy for the composition, so I let them go (but not after hitting my head on the wall 30 times, because yeah, I’m stubborn af).
Anyways, I’m glad I let go of it because then I had other ideas that actually added to the story, like the flooded graveyard.

For last, here’s the thumbnails exploration I did at the beginning of the series.
Even though some of them gave me a lot of headache, they were so fun to explore and problem-solve!
Thank you for watching!
